Spend Your Time Wisely in Vegas

Author: nick21 - Categories: Las Vegas Travel, Las Vegas Vacation Homes, Las Vegas Vacations

A Las Vegas Vacation can be a great expierience. Though, if it is your first time and you don’t know the city, you may miss out on some wonderful memories and expieriences. Below are a few things that I believe will enrich your Las Vegas Vacation expierience.

  • Make sure not to overdue it at the tables. Las Vegas is the city of gambling, but it’s not all it has to offer you on your vacation. Set a money and time limit for yourself and stick with it. Not following these Las Vegas gambling guidelines can result in stress and regret.
  • Plan your vacation at a time where a performer favorite of yours is in town performing. There are always shows in Las Vegas, but, of course, seeing an act you know you will enjoy will enrich your vacation experience.
  • The Bellagio Texas Hold ‘em tournements. If you are not a poker player this probably won’t work for you. The Bellagio offers great tournements throughout the day and it can be a whole lot of fun.
  • Be sure to walk the strip at night. All those bright lights are just awesome for a walk on the town, very exciting to see for the first time live.
  • Stay in a rental house if possible, rather than a hotel. It can be more pricey, but if you can afford it, it will be worth it. I was sold at the idea of having my own pool!

This is how I would reccomend a Las Vegas Novice to spend there vaction time. Of course everyone is different and you will find things about the city of Las Vegas you love to do on your trips there.

Las Vegas Museum That Doesn’t Exist Announces Name

Author: nick21 - Categories: Las Vegas Museums

After six years of planning and more than 60 years in the making, a downtown Las Vegas museum devoted to the epic battle between the mob and law enforcement finally has a name. During today’s Las Vegas City Council meeting, the council officially approved the name, the Las Vegas Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, aka “The Mob Museum,” and unveiled the museum’s logo. Gala opening events are being planned surrounding the museum’s 2010 opening.

Set to open in the former federal courthouse and post office building in downtown Las Vegas, The Mob Museum is slated to be the capstone of the ongoing downtown redevelopment. Renovations are being handled by Cleveland based Westlake, Reed Leskosky-Integrated Design and Architecture, whose team members also launched both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland and the International Spy Museum in Washington, D.C.

The building is one of the last remaining historically significant buildings in Las Vegas. Included in both the Nevada and National Registers of Historic Places, and determined to be significant at a national level for its association with the Kefauver Committee hearings. The committee, which was named after Sen. Estes Kefauver, investigated the influence of the mob in the gaming industry. The building was in continuous use from its dedication in 1933 until late 2004, when the post office ceased operations.

Uniquely situated in the hotbed of mob history, and in part the vision of Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman, former defense attorney for defendants alleged to be among the most powerful organized crime figures in Las Vegas, The Mob Museum will provide a balanced and candid look at the reality of organized crime across the country, how the mob shaped the building of Las Vegas, and how it was ultimately dismantled through the valiant efforts of both local and national law the enforcement. To address the challenges of this dichotomy, the board hired Pittsburgh branding firm Wall-to-Wall Studios to develop a name and identity that frankly depicts the contentious and often contradictory role of the mob in Las Vegas history.

“Las Vegas has a wonderful, colorful history, and The Mob Museum will educate visitors about the impact organized crime had on this great city,” said Mayor Goodman, who tried his first case inside the building when it served as a federal courthouse. “This isn’t done to glorify organized crime, on the contrary it is to show how law enforcement successful managed to gain the upper hand.”

Bolstered by former special agent in charge of the FBI’s Las Vegas field office Ellen Knowlton as its chairperson, the non-profit board of the museum, the 300 Stewart Avenue Corporation, is comprised of notable area persona from various sectors, including journalism, cultural planning, advertising, hospitality, government and law, even boasting one U.S. Senator among its ranks. The board has been working with the city to help develop plans for the museum.

“This is an exciting and innovative project that compliments the city’s long range plans for urban redevelopment,” Knowlton said.

WSOP 2008 Final Table Starts Soon

Author: nick21 - Categories: Las Vegas WSOP

The nine players will return to the Rio in Las Vegas to commence the final table on November 9.  Play will again stop when two players remain.  These two will play the heads-up portion of the tournament on November 10 until one of them is crowned champ.

ESPN production crews will work furiously November 9-11 (the heads-up match may very well not end until the 11th) to put together a two-hour final table program to be aired on the network on November 11 at 9:00pm ET.  This way, poker fans can enjoy “same day” programming of the final table instead of having to wait a few months to see what happened (and probably hear about it in the meantime).

You can go see the action in Vegas live.

Las Vegas Nightclubs May Have Crossed line by Admitting Women Free

Author: nick21 - Categories: Las Vegas Law, Las Vegas Nightclubs

While lobbying to amend state law to prevent businesses from discriminating against gay and transgender customers, the American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada came to an embarrassing conclusion: Nevada is among a few states without a law protecting customers from sex discrimination by businesses.

Years ago, attorneys in other states used such laws to stamp out disparate pricing for men and women at bars, nightclubs and other businesses. “Ladies’ night” lawsuits have generally succeeded.

It’s easy to see which Nevada businesses would stand to lose the most from equal pricing laws.

Free or discounted admission for women is a key marketing strategy for casino nightclubs. Women draw men, who pay big bucks to enter these clubs and buy drinks for women. Women are eye candy, men are wallets. Simple stereotypes? Sure. And yet, casinos profit from well-accepted sexual stereotypes, including scantily-clad cocktail servers and go-go dancers.

That’s why casino executives are paying close attention to Las Vegas civil rights attorney Todd Phillips.

Phillips, who moved here from Hollywood a few years ago, has made a business out of suing California businesses for charging men more than they charge women.

Last year, Phillips filed a sex discrimination complaint against the Las Vegas Athletic Club for charging men a $10 membership fee, while women enrolled for free. To his surprise, he was the first person to challenge a business for gender discrimination under Nevada’s “public accommodation” law.
