The 10 Surest Ways To Get Arrested In Vegas

Author: nick21 - Categories: Las Vegas

Las Vegas might be the city where “What Happens Here, Stays Here” reigns, but despite the scandalous catchphrase, Sin City actually has a bonafide legal system comprised of real-life laws and a police squad to enforce them. You don’t say! But do tourists know about this? Not really. How about pit bosses and casino mobsters? Yes. The LVPD? Not so much.

Thousands of tourists are arrested here every year. Most of these arrests are not OJ-holding-up-memorabilia-dealers-at-palace-station type arrests. That’s right, the vast majority of Las Vegas bookings are your garden variety dumb crimes and yes, alcohol is almost always involved.

So pay attention as we clue you into the 10 Surest Ways to Get Arrested in Vegas. Who knows, maybe this list will resonate with you the next time you are in Las Vegas at 3 AM and have had a bit too much to drink, not that it’s meant to be a checklist or anything.

1. Take a Dip on the Strip.
It goes without saying that while attending a Major League Baseball game you can’t run onto the field or you will get arrested — same rule applies in Vegas. Think of any of the Strip’s waterway attractions as your home field and stay off it. We know, we know, after a couple drinks and a little coaxing from your hen party you might be just about ready to make a splash. If you do, you will get arrested. Don’t believe us? We’ll let a Vegas drunk’s lips tell their tale:

Okay, I once was “apprehended” when I went for a night swim at the Treasure Island moat. And yes I was drunk. I had a good lawyer, but for the record anytime you go for a swim on any of the Strip’s waterway structures is a sure way to land in the can.

Las Vegas loses challenge of airport flight path

Author: nick21 - Categories: Las Vegas

An appellate court ruled against the city of Las Vegas in its fight to stop commercial jets from flying over homes in the northwest part of the city.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco ruled Friday that the Federal Aviation Administration didn’t act arbitrarily or capriciously when it changed a flight path out of McCarran International Airport in March 2007.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor says the ruling showed environmental reviews were properly conducted before the so-called “right turn” flight path was adopted.

City Councilman Steve Wolfson says the city is disappointed, but won’t appeal.

The city contended the FAA failed to fully consider noise, safety, air quality and property value concerns of residents in the affluent northwest Las Vegas neighborhood.

Shopping in Las Vegas

Author: nick21 - Categories: Las Vegas Attractions

World-class shopping in Vegas? Yes, among the scads of kitsch and Elvis memorabilia (looking for a piece of the King’s pillowcase?), there’s also the ne plus ultra from Cartier and Yves St. Laurent. The square footage in the Forum Shops at Caesars alone is the most valuable retail real estate in the country; bankrolls are dropped there as readily as on the gaming tables. It’s the variety of options that has pushed Las Vegas near the ranks of New York, London, or Rome: You could tote home a vintage slot machine or Lenôtre chocolates from the only place in the United States where you can buy them (at Paris Las Vegas, in case you’re salivating). You might start to think those darn casinos only get in the way of your shopping safaris.

Strip shopping malls take their themes to extremes: you can stroll along a Venice canal at the Venetian or traverse North African trade routes at the Aladdin. Most Strip hotels offer expensive dresses, swimsuits, jewelry, and menswear; almost all have shops offering logo merchandise for the hotel or its latest show. Inside the casinos the gifts are elegant and expensive. Outside, all the Elvis clocks and gambling-chip toilet seats you never wanted to see are available in the tacky gift shops. Beyond the Strip, Vegas shopping encompasses such extremes as a couture ball gown in a vintage store and, in a Western store, a fine pair of Tony Lamas left over from the town’s cowboy days. Shoppers looking for more practical items can head for neighborhood malls, supermarkets, shopping centers, and specialty stores. And to avoid the stratospheric prices on the Strip, shoppers not averse to driving a bit can find the same high-ticket items at lower prices at the town’s factory outlet malls.

Plan to Make Money in Vegas?

Author: nick21 - Categories: Las Vegas Advice

You should always bring along a photo ID with your current address and something with your name and social security number on it. The IRS requires the casinos to get this information if you hit a jackpot at a machine or do extremely well at the tables. However, don’t carry the document bearing your social security number around with you. If your name, address, and SSN fall into the wrong hands you could become the victim of “credit identity theft”. (You shouldn’t carry your Social Security card in your wallet or purse at all anymore because this applies everywhere, not just Las Vegas. Also check any health insurance cards or school IDs you may have in your wallet. They also often have your SSN on it.) Leave your SSN document in your room, locked in your suitcase. If you do hit it big, the casino will be glad to hold onto your winnings while you go back to your room to get the document.

When to Visit Las Vegas

Author: nick21 - Categories: Las Vegas Vacations, Las Vegas Weather

Vegas gets a bad rap for its brutally hot and dry summers, but the climate here is actually pretty wonderful most of the year, with an average of 300 days of sunshine annually. Even during the warmer months (June-September), it’s entirely bearable.

The highs hover around 100°F with no humidity, and virtually every interior inch of this city is air-conditioned. Just drink lots of water, and we mean lots and lots.

The rest of the year, expect still more sun and only the occasional rainy days (the average annual rainfall is 4 inches) and wonderfully pleasant temps, with highs in the 70s and 80s in spring and fall, and in the upper 50s and 60s in winter.

Freezing temperatures are rare, but desert nights can get chilly between late fall and early spring, so bring a sweater or windbreaker for your evening strolls beneath the neon-bathed skies.
