311 Fans Get Hyped For ‘311 Day’ Fan Party In Las Vegas

Author: nick21 - Categories: Las Vegas Parties

It might have been the day before 311 Day, but the festivities were already in full swing Wednesday night at the Jet nightclub at the Mirage Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The official 311 Fan Party at Jet served as the epicenter for die-hard fans from all over the country to converge — and converge they did.

Fans packed the line in droves even before the doors opened at 9 p.m. Jet let its usual formal dress code slide for the night, allowing fans to show their true colors in 311 T-shirts, hats, and plenty of tattoos. By 11 p.m., the line of fans stretched all the way to the entrance of the Mirage. But you didn’t have to see them to feel their presence — their chants of “311!” could be heard all the way to the blackjack tables.

Inside the club, 311 music was blasting on the speakers — and that’s where MTV News’ guest correspondents Dave Kosin and Lauren Black, (winners of the 311 Day contest) were hard at work. The pair were meeting old friends and new ones from all over the country: ecstatic fans from Lauren’s home state of Texas to a local Las Vegas couple who booked a hotel room to take part in the activities.

But it was a fan from across the pond that proved just how die-hard 311 fans are. He told Dave, “I had to threaten to resign from my job to be allowed to come.” For him, a week without pay ended up being a small penalty for his first-ever 311 Day.

He could hardly contain his excitement. “In England they never play a 311 song, so even tonight, it’s just wow! It’s amazing — tomorrow is going to be the best day of my life,” he said with a smile.

MTV News will have much more from 311 Day for the rest of this week!

Las Vegas New Year’s Fireworks Back to Rooftops

Author: nick21 - Categories: Las Vegas Parties

New Year’s Eve fireworks will return to the rooftops of Las Vegas Strip hotels to ring in 2010 after ground-level displays disappointed revelers last year, event and county officials said.

“We’re moving the fireworks show back to where it should be,” said Pat Christenson, president of the event promoter, Las Vegas Events.

Christenson said the $550,000 fireworks show will be fired from atop seven tall hotels lining Las Vegas Boulevard. The street will again be closed to form a pedestrian mall for the event that tourism officials have dubbed “America’s Party.”

Plans call for fireworks to be shot from the Stratosphere tower, the MGM Grand, Planet Hollywood, Caesars Palace, Treasure Island and Venetian hotels, and the Aria Resort & Casino at MGM Mirage’s CityCenter complex. Aria is set to open in December.

Christenson conceded that last year’s low-trajectory pyrotechnics disappointed some of the estimated 250,000 people attending what became an annual aerial fireworks event in 2001.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and the producer of the show, Fireworks by Grucci, began working last January to meet fire and building regulations.

The fireworks were not held this past New Year’s Eve because of concerns that followed a spectacular three-alarm blaze ignited by welders’ sparks at the Monte Carlo hotel-casino in January 2008. No one was seriously hurt, although 6,000 guests and employees had to evacuate the hotel.

Las Vegas Readies for ‘Takin’ It to the Streets’ New Year’s Eve

Author: nick21 - Categories: Las Vegas Parties - Tags: ,

Officials from Las Vegas Events and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) joined city leaders and Fireworks by Grucci today at the Fashion Show Mall on the Las Vegas Strip to announce the details for America’s Party: Las Vegas New Year 2009, the citywide celebration planned for Dec. 31.

The fireworks extravaganza on the Las Vegas Strip and Fremont Street will ring in 2009 in classic Las Vegas style. The theme of the pyrotechnic display will be “Takin’ It to the Streets,” with a soundtrack featuring classic rock and dance favorites.

America’s Party is the official moniker coined by the LVCVA and Las Vegas Events to signify the annual citywide celebration. This year’s festivities include both the themed fireworks extravaganza on the Las Vegas Strip and the live concerts and fireworks under the canopy at the Fremont Street Experience. Themed as “TributePalooza,” the world’s best tribute bands will be performing fourteen hours of live music from 6 p.m. until 1 a.m. (PT) on both the 1st Street and 3rd Street stages on Fremont Street Experience. Tribute bands will be performing as Billy Joel, Eagles, David Bowie, KISS, Rolling Stones, U2, Queen and Aerosmith.

More than 30,000 effects will be fired from the eight locations during the 8 minute, 10 second program. Effects such as red, silver and orange comets, mines and peonies are all part of the core program. Special effects such as the colorful buzzing bees will be displayed for David Bowie and Mick Jagger’s “Dancing In The Streets” and red, silver, blue and green palm trees will be highlighted during The Doobie Brothers’ “Takin’ It To The Streets.” In addition, revelers can watch as waves of comets creating a rainbow of color will crisscross the Las Vegas landscape to Bob Sinclar’s “Rock This Party.” For the Grand Finale, the show will conclude with a thunderous roar of titanium salutes to “Xterminate” by Omega Attraktor.
“It gets no better than New Year’s in Las Vegas,” said Mayor Oscar B. Goodman, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. “From the amazing fireworks that blast off along the world famous Las Vegas Strip to the great bands and the atmosphere under the canopy at the Fremont Street Experience downtown, Las Vegas is the place to ring in 2009.”

“I’m very excited about the party we’ve organized,” Majestik said. “As you may know, I’ve thrown many parties in the past with top celebrities, but this party is one that will be fun for everyone. We’re expecting a host of celebrities and personalities.

This is the one you don’t want to miss!”
He added, “By sheer coincidence, our party falls on the same day that the remake of the famous 1951 Sci-Fi movie “The Day the Earth Stood Still” will be released in theaters nationwide. The film portrays an extraterrestrial human being visiting Earth with a message for mankind. Similarly, Rael received a message from a human extraterrestrial 35 years ago, to the day.”
