Partly Cloudy and Warmer for Las Vegas

Author: nick21 - Categories: Las Vegas Weather

Partly cloudy skies and temperatures climbing into the mid 70s are on the way to the Las Vegas Valley today, according to the National Weather Service.

Although there will be some variable high clouds, a generally dry northwest flow will be over the area into the weekend, the weather service said.

That will allow daytime temperatures to warm to above normal readings by Saturday, climbing into the mid to upper 80s, forecasters said.

At 4:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 53 degrees, which is the normal low for today’s date. The record low was 38 degrees, set in 1983.

Around the valley just before 5 a.m., temperatures were 50 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 49 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 49 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 68 degrees on the west side of the valley and around 75 degrees on the east side, forecasters said. The normal high for today’s date is 78 degrees and the record high was 95 degrees, set in 2002 and 1962.

Temperatures are expected to drop overnight to 46 degrees on the west side of the valley and around 50 on the east side, forecasters said.

Friday’s high will climb to 76 degrees on the west side of the valley and around 82 on the east side, they said.

Las Vegas to Cool Down

Author: nick21 - Categories: Las Vegas Weather

Say goodbye to the 80s. Afternoon temperatures will be about 10 degrees cooler today than they were Wednesday in the Las Vegas Valley.

While Las Vegas will get some clouds, a stalled cold front will bring showers and possibly a few thunderstorms to areas east of the valley today, according to the National Weather Service.

A large Pacific storm will bring periods of breezy to windy conditions Saturday through Tuesday, along with chances for valley rain and mountain snow, the weather service said.

The best chance of widespread precipitation will be Sunday night and Monday, forecasters said.

At 5:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 61 degrees. The normal low for today’s date is 47 degrees. The record low was 30 degrees, set in 1955.

Around the valley just before 6 a.m., temperatures were 60 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 60 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 55 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 67 degrees by 9 a.m., to 71 degrees by noon and reach a high of 72 degrees by 1 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today’s date is 70 degrees and the record high was 91 degrees, set in 2007.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 70 degrees by 6 p.m., to 62 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 55 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Friday’s morning low will be 51 degrees and Friday’s high will climb to 74 degrees, they said.

Warm Valentine’s Day for Las Vegas

Author: nick21 - Categories: Las Vegas Weather

A spring-like Valentine’s Day is on the way for Las Vegas — skies will be mostly sunny and temperatures will climb to nearly 73 degrees by mid afternoon.

The dry and unseasonably warm weather will continue through Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

A large and complex low pressure system over the Pacific Ocean will affect the region beginning Wednesday, the weather service said.

Strong southwest winds, mountain snow and valley rain are likely Wednesday into early Thursday, especially north of Interstate 40, forecasters said.

High temperatures will be 10 to 20 degrees colder Thursday than Monday, they said. The colder damp weather will continue into the weekend as the area of low pressure slowly moves across the region.

At 4:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 36 degrees. The normal low for today’s date is 41 degrees. The record low was 18 degrees, set in 1949.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 54 degrees by 9 a.m., to 66 degrees by noon and reach a high of 73 degrees by 3 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today’s date is 63 degrees and the record high was 78 degrees, set in 1957.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 67 degrees by 6 p.m., to 61 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 57 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Highs to Hit Low 70s in Las Vegas Valley

Author: nick21 - Categories: Las Vegas Weather

Mostly sunny skies and temperatures climbing into the low 70s will warm the Las Vegas Valley again today, according to the National Weather Service.

A ridge of high pressure over the eastern Pacific Ocean is bringing the above-normal temperatures to the region, the weather service said.

But gusty north winds and cooler temperatures are moving in tonight and Tuesday, forecasters said.

The cold front is expected to hit Las Vegas around 4 a.m. Tuesday, then reach the rest of the region by mid morning, forecasters said. Winds are expected to be strongest down the Colorado River Valley, they said.

There is also a chance of showers primarily over the mountains of eastern Nevada and northwest Arizona, forecasters said.

The region will remain cool, but dry, on Wednesday as the area remains under a northerly flow, they said.

At 4:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 45 degrees. The normal low for today’s date is 40 degrees. The record low was 16 degrees, set in 1989.

Around the valley just before 5 a.m., temperatures were 43 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 41 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 43 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 54 degrees by 9 a.m., to 65 degrees by noon and reach a high of 72 degrees by 3 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today’s date is 61 degrees and the record high was 77 degrees, set in 1963.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 67 degrees by 6 p.m., to 58 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 55 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Tuesday’s morning low will be 50 degrees and Tuesday’s high will climb to 62 degrees, they said.

Author: nick21 - Categories: Las Vegas Weather

If you’re attending a parade or are volunteering in a service project today for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the weather will cooperate — near-record high temperatures are moving into Las Vegas this afternoon.

Temperatures are expected to climb to 60 degrees by the time the MLK Day parade begins at 10 a.m. at Fourth Street near Ogden in downtown Las Vegas. Today’s highs will hit the low 70s by mid afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Dry and very mild conditions will continue through Tuesday, thanks to an area of high pressure centered off the coast of southern California, the weather service said.

A low pressure system will move across the Great Basin on Wednesday, ushering in cooler air and returning temperatures closer to normal for the last half of the week, forecasters said.

At 5:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 49 degrees. The normal low for today’s date is 37 degrees. The record low was 20 degrees, set in 1949.

Around the valley just before 6 a.m., temperatures were 51 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 41 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 50 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 54 degrees by 9 a.m., to 67 degrees by noon and reach a high of 71 degrees by 3 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today’s date is 57 degrees and the record high was 72 degrees, set in 1976.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 62 degrees by 6 p.m., to 56 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 52 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

TUesday’s morning low will be 47 degrees and Tuesday’s high will climb to 67 degrees, they said.

Record-breaking cold temperatures possible for Thanksgiving

Author: nick21 - Categories: Las Vegas Weather

Breezy conditions and temperatures chilly enough to frost every martini glass on the Strip are heading to Las Vegas for the Thanksgiving holiday week.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for this afternoon and evening across the Mojave Desert, followed by a freeze watch late Wednesday night through Friday morning.

An arctic low pressure system will move across the intermountain region today and tonight, driving a strong cold front down through southern Nevada and surrounding areas tonight, the weather service said.

Strong southwest winds will develop across the Mojave Desert region this afternoon and evening ahead of the approaching front, forecasters said. Little moisture is expected in Las Vegas, but a few rain/snow showers will be possible to the northeast of the valley, they said.

Snow and blowing snow will be possible over the Sierra and northern Lincoln County late this afternoon and evening, forecasters said. A winter weather advisory has been issued for the eastern Sierra slopes in Inyo County and for Lincoln County.

A very cold northerly flow will develop across the entire area tonight and Wednesday, bringing record-breaking cold temperatures to the region, they said.

Temperatures will plunge below the 32-degree freezing mark Wednesday night and again Thursday night before beginning to warm Friday and into the weekend, forecasters said.

The cold air moving into the area Wednesday and Thursday will be bringing in some of the coldest air to the area in November in quite some time, forecasters said. For example, the low forecast for Las Vegas on Thanksgiving morning is in the upper 20s. The last time Las Vegas saw an upper 20s reading in November was nearly 17 years ago, when it hit 27 degrees Nov. 27, 1993.

Highs to Hit 60s in Vegas this Weekend

Author: nick21 - Categories: Las Vegas Weather

Partly sunny skies with temperatures climbing up into the 60s are in store today through the weekend for the Las Vegas Valley.

But big changes in the weather are coming as a series of wet storms begins passing through the valley starting Sunday night, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service said that a change in the jet stream will bring four to five different storm systems across the valley next week.

All the lower elevations are expected to see rain next week, although some of the systems moving through will bring more rain than others, forecasters said. Rainfall amounts could be as high as 3 inches in some areas, or a significant portion of their yearly rainfall, the weather service said.

The higher elevations will likely see several feet of total snow accumulation by the end of next week, especially areas above 8,000 feet, forecasters said.

Road conditions could be hazardous next week for areas that get heavy snow, the rains could make roads slippery and create flooding situations, forecasters said.

Temperatures were starting out today at 43 degrees at 5:56 a.m. at McCarran International Airport. The normal low at McCarran for today’s date is 36 degrees and the record low is 20 degrees, set in 1962 and 1949.

Around the valley just after 6 a.m., temperatures were 44 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 37 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport and 43 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base.

Temperatures were to climb today to 50 degrees by 9 a.m., to 63 degrees by noon and reach a high of 65 degrees at 1 p.m. The normal high for today’s date is 57 degrees and the record high is 73 degrees, set in 1945.

If you’re heading out tonight, you’ll find the temperature falling to 58 degrees by 6 p.m., 51 degrees by 9 p.m. and 48 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Saturday’s morning low will be 43 degrees and Saturday’s high will reach 62 degrees, forecasters said.

When to Visit Las Vegas

Author: nick21 - Categories: Las Vegas Vacations, Las Vegas Weather

Vegas gets a bad rap for its brutally hot and dry summers, but the climate here is actually pretty wonderful most of the year, with an average of 300 days of sunshine annually. Even during the warmer months (June-September), it’s entirely bearable.

The highs hover around 100°F with no humidity, and virtually every interior inch of this city is air-conditioned. Just drink lots of water, and we mean lots and lots.

The rest of the year, expect still more sun and only the occasional rainy days (the average annual rainfall is 4 inches) and wonderfully pleasant temps, with highs in the 70s and 80s in spring and fall, and in the upper 50s and 60s in winter.

Freezing temperatures are rare, but desert nights can get chilly between late fall and early spring, so bring a sweater or windbreaker for your evening strolls beneath the neon-bathed skies.

How to Save Money on Water in Las Vegas

Author: nick21 - Categories: Las Vegas Frugal, Las Vegas Vacation, Las Vegas Weather

On a vacation in the desert you’ll need a lot of water. It seems that every business on the Strip is trying to take advantage of that. Hotels and casinos have their own branded bottled water which costs $3 for a small bottle.

Avoid paying such prices by knowing where to find a local drugstore. There are two places along the Strip: a drugstore across the street from the Sturdust hotel on the northern end and a drugstore near the MGM Grand. If you are in Downtown Las Vegas, there is a drugstore near the entrance to the Fremont Street Experience.
